What is in-home companion care?

Companion Care enhances the quality of life for seniors, those with memory loss, and people with disabilities. Our caregivers provide individualized non-medical home care services, offering meaningful connections while assisting families with current needs.


Companion care is ideal for older adults who are isolated due to weakness, cognitive impairment, or live alone. Services are provided in the comfort of your home, assisted-living or care community. Companion care may include a range of activities of daily living such as, enjoying a hobby together, reading, taking a walk, and reminders for events or preparing meals together.

We serve with consistent and committed caregivers for the full realm of non-medical care, through end-of-life. As our families come to a point where they need a service beyond what we offer, our care team is skilled in helping to set up resources in our community that we trust.

What does “non-medical” home care services mean?

Home care allows you to remain independent in the comfort of your home for as long as possible. Although we do not provide medical home health care or hands-on personal care, our caregivers are skilled at helping with reminders and verbal cues through routine tasks.

We provide respite care and breaks for family members. When the time comes for our clients to need medical home health care, our licensed social workers are skilled at assessing needs to work with you and share referrals for our trusted service partners. They are wonderful advocates for independence and remain committed to learning about new services for seniors in our community.

We are committed to ensuring our caregivers arrive on time, every time. We are in good communication with our clients if a schedule change needs to be made. Many senior care professionals trust in referring to our services because we go beyond homemaking services to provide companionship that engages our clients, pursues their interests, and develops a friendship. Due to memory loss, we understand the need to provide wellness checks on a weekly or daily basis. Therefore, we have a low visit minimum, starting services at two hours a day.

How much does in-home companion care cost?

Our services are charged by the hour, and you only pay for the time a caregiver is present in your home. We have low visit minimums that start at just two-hour visits, up to 24-hour overnight care. After meeting with you, we will create a care plan that is tailored to your family member to help make life easier and more enjoyable. We work with you to fit Joyful Companions Home Care into your budget.


Social work consultation calls and home visits are complimentary. We also attend care conferences and discharge meetings to assist with planning for returning home. Our companion services can be covered by a Long-Term Care Insurance policy, and our staff will help you receive reimbursement for our care, whenever possible.

What is the minimum visit requirement?

Joyful Companions desires to be a ministry and an affordable option to older adults in our community. Therefore, we provide short 2-hour visits for regular check-ins and offer a low weekly minimum, starting at 3-hours! Our services are flexible and can be customized to meet your unique needs.


From just a few hours a week to overnight, 24-hour round-the-clock care, our schedules can vary as much as our clients. Give us a call to discuss how we can tailor care for on-call needs and short-term schedules for temporary respite care for a loved one.

Do you accept Long Term Care insurance?

Yes, our companion services can be covered by a Long-Term Care Insurance policy due to having licensed social workers on staff. Please consult with our staff and your unique policy to help determine whether you can receive reimbursement for our care.
Our caregivers offer reminders and verbal cues through activities of daily living, providing cognitive assistance for persons with Alzheimer's or Dementia. We serve with consistent and committed caregivers, working with you to fit Joyful Companions Home Care into your budget

What is the caregiver hiring process like at Joyful Companions?

After sorting through prospective caregiver applicants, the best candidates receive a phone interview to discuss interest, experience, qualifications, and availability, before we conduct the in-person interview.


During this time, we look for character traits such as integrity, responsibility, compassion, and reliability. We want to be confident the caregivers can be trusted like one of your own family. Our proprietary background check screening exceeds industry standards. This completes a national and local criminal background check including traffic violations, verification of work history, and completion of 3 personal references.


Once the hiring process is complete, we only hire the caregivers we trust in our own home. Employment Inquiry form

What training and certifications do Joyful Companions staff hold?

We provide an initial in-person training, on-going in services, and daily oversight to ensure you and your loved one are receiving the very best from their caregiver. All caregivers receive memory care and dementia training including education on Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. This includes effective approaches to problem solving and communicating with someone with memory loss.


Joyful Companions is a proud member of the Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partners in Parkinson’s Care program, allowing our caregivers to receive knowledge and understanding for serving persons with Parkinson’s disease.
Additionally, the office sends weekly emails with information on common diseases prevalent in older adults and Caregiver tips for activities to engage our clients. They enjoy attending our quarterly Caregiver Connection resource groups, annual in-service events, and webinars with local speakers for ongoing training opportunities.

Are caregivers at Joyful Companions insured?

Yes, our caregivers are bonded and insured.

How are caregivers assigned?

We work with our clients and their families to make the best client-companion matches possible, to help foster and prolong independent and semi-independent living scenarios with a committed and trustworthy caregiver. Each caregiver is thoughtfully placed with each family as we purposely strive to match interests and needs. Caregivers respect important details, preferences and personal specifications when helping others.


Once a companion is scheduled, we email the caregiver biography including a photo to support you in feeling comfortable with our services before our first visit. This helps ensure the initial meeting goes smoothly and provides peace of mind to family from afar. Most of our caregivers are experienced, educated, college graduates, and all are trained in memory care. Caregivers record notes after each visit so that families can remain updated with the activities, pertinent information and events that occurred.
